URGENT ACTION

SYRIAN KURDISH MAN NO LONGER INCOMMUNICADO

Khaled Kenjo, a Syrian Kurdish man held incommunicado after his forcible return from Germany, is now known to be held in Qamishli prison in north-eastern Syria, charged with spreading “false” news.

Khaled Kenjo, who was forcibly returned from Germany on 1 September after his asylum application was rejected, was detained in Qamishli on 13 September. He has been charged under Article 287 of the Syrian Penal Code with spreading “false” news abroad that could harm the reputation of the state.

He was able to speak to a lawyer at a court session on 6 October.

As far as Amnesty International is aware, Khaled Kenjo is now not in imminent danger of torture or other ill-treatment. However, we will continue to monitor his case.

Thanks to all those who took action on behalf of Khaled Kenjo. No further appeals are required.
