Scores of people killed and many others wounded in Anjouan between 3 and 5 September 1997, during clashes between government troops and armed secessionist groups. Civilians were reportedly shot dead indiscriminately. Government troops injured in the clashes were allegedly evacuated for medical treatment. Wounded civilians were not evacuated or given medical assistance.
