This document describes Amnesty International's concerns in Nigeria in 1990. Over 120 executions took place in 1990, including those of 69 soldiers accused of involvement in a coup attempt in April. At least 106 death sentences were recorded. Over 60 civilians were held as prisoners of conscience without charge or trial following the coup: at least nine remained imprisoned at the end of 1990. Some appear to have been held because they were relatives of those suspected of involvement in the coup.
