South Korea: Reported ill-treatment of teachers

Amnesty International is concerned about the reported ill-treatment of members of Chunkyojo (Korean Teachers’ and Educational Workers’ Union) in Yongdungpo and Nambu Police Stations in Seoul in March 1992. Around 700 members of Chunkyojo had gathered outside the headquarters of the Democratic Liberal Party on the morning of 2 March 1992 to demand the reinstatement of dismissed teachers. About 400 were arrested as they left the protest. All were later released but several alleged ill-treatment by police. Those who reported ill-treatment are: Pae Choon-il, Vice-President of Chunkyojo, Han Young-sun, Cho Hee-ju, Kim Sang-chol and Lee Jong-chon.
