Annual Report 2013
The state of the world's human rights

Global activities

To celebrate Amnesty International’s 50th anniversary, activists worldwide joined together for two global moments. See their activities in the slide shows below.

Fifty years ago, one man’s outrage at the imprisonment of two students for raising a toast to freedom spawned a powerful network of solidarity. That network grew to unite millions in common action against injustice.

On 28 May 2011, in tribute to that defining moment in our history, Amnesty International activists worldwide raised a toast to freedom to celebrate 50 years of activism.

Our photo gallery captures hundreds of toasts worldwide – whether at tea parties or festivals, candlelit dinners or theatres, concerts or your own home.

To courage, solidarity and freedom.
