Annual Report 2012
The state of the world's human rights

GET INVOLVED

Join the Urgent Action Network

We use Urgent Actions to mobilize thousands of activists worldwide as quickly as possible when someone is facing immediate, often life-threatening, human rights violations. We issue hundreds of Urgent Actions every year – in each one we describe the situation and give simple instructions on how to help. This may include sending a letter, email or SMS message to those who have the power to stop the violations. We might ask you to send a message of solidarity directly to the individual at risk. We may provide suggestions for local campaign initiatives. Examples of Urgent Action cases include:

  • A man being tortured for peacefully speaking about his beliefs.
  • Children starving because security forces prevent food from reaching their village.
  • A woman facing death threats for defending her community's human rights.

Join our growing network of over 100,000 activists in 70 countries by contacting your national section.

You will receive as many or as few Urgent Actions as you like directly from your national section. You can also find a list of the latest Urgent Actions here.

Receive regular appeals for action

Amnesty International also campaigns for hundreds of individuals over the longer-term, with the aim of compelling reluctant governments to address longstanding violations.

Take action for these individuals regularly by subscribing to Amnesty International's bi-monthly e-newsletter the Wire. Join here.
