Amnesty International has called for the release of a human rights
activist who went on trial this week for making a video about pollution
in Tunisia and posting it on Facebook.
Amnesty International has condemned the excessive use of force by Iranian security forces that saw scores of peaceful protesters beaten and detained on Wednesday.

Hairat Niyaz has been detained since 1 October. He is thought at risk of torture and ill-treatment. Family and friends believe his detention is due to comments he made about the recent unrest.
Amnesty International is calling on Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to
immediately retract his statement on Wednesday that criticising the
outcome of June’s presidential election is a crime.
Two members of a peasant organization in Chiapas State, currently held in a state prison, were blindfolded, bound and beaten during their interrogation.
