Working with the Head of Resource Mobilisation as well as Amnesty International fundraisers from around the world, you will help drive Amnesty International’s ambitious programme of supporter and income growth.

You will have excellent fundraising or marketing skills with a record of establishing and maintaining successful marketing projects, as well as the ability to work with people from a wide range of backgrounds. You will be motivated by the opportunity to build Amnesty International’s presence as well as the opportunity to share your skills and expertise with others. As with the Head of Resource Mobilisation, experience gained in an international context will be a distinct advantage, as will be the ability to speak a language other than English from one of Amnesty International’s priority regions for growth.

Job Title: Global Fundraising Adviser
Team: Resource Mobilization Unit
Programme: International Fundraising Programme
Grade: C
Reports to: Head of Resource Mobilization

Job purpose:

To provide advice, support and coordination to facilitate and drive direct fundraising activities and financial growth in Amnesty countries worldwide resulting in successful self-sufficient programmes that add value to the movement.

Main Responsibilities:

1. Manage an agreed portfolio of country fundraising growth projects and initiatives in order to facilitate the mobilization of resources to deliver growth in priority countries and monitor and account for the movement’s investment in those countries
  • Monitor and evaluate programmes on an ongoing basis including monthly budgets from S/s to ensure incomes and expenditure are inline with Annual budgets.
  • Provide training and direct skill sharing to sections and structures in order to facilitate the development of movement wide fundraising skills
  • Provide advice and guidance and support for key staff as required.
  • Build positive working relationships with S/s taking into account cultural differences and distance management.
  • Manage the day to day programme activity and potentially directly manage staff / agency relationships at distance
  • Ability to select and train core fundraising staff in country programmes in your portfolio
2. Contribute to the strategic development of S/s and AI  strategic fundraising growth and S/s long term fundraising activities in order to support the long term increase and sustainability of AI’s fundraising activities
  • Advise and develop fundraising strategies for Sections/Structures (S/s) in co-ordination with head of resource mobilisation to ensure the development of skills and techniques for the movement.
  • Analyse Fundraising strategies and Budgets for Sections/Structures (S/s) to facilitate healthy growth in finances.
  • Write and disseminate short research reports to inform resource mobilization strategies
  • Ability to proactively take a lead in crisis situations
3. Develop country research initiatives as required in order to inform resource mobilization growth programme and to support the wider movement investment decisions
  • Write research reports focusing on fundraising in key markets as agreed.
  • Carry out ongoing research in RMU countries to ensure S/s are maximising growth opportunities and to help identify areas of potential development / risk
4. Participate in the collective work of the unit, programme and cluster in order to ensure effective and efficient operations
5. Carry out own administrative tasks related to the post in accordance with agreed guidelines for self-servicing.

Person specification

Skills and experience:

  • Proven success in delivering and developing a range of fundraising tools specifically fundraising from individuals
  • Proven experience in project management and crisis response
  • Experience of developing long term plans for fundraising programmes
  • Experience of developing budgeting tools
  • Experience in keeping accurate records of expenditure and ability to monitor set budgets
  • A working understanding of financial management systems
  • A working knowledge of database’s specifically CRM systems
  • Ability to undertake research for product / programme development
  • Experience of managing agency relationships
  • Ability to use own initiative to plan ahead and manage own work-plan taking into consideration the needs and availability of colleagues and external contacts.
  • Experience of working on own initiative with little supervision and producing accurate and timely work.
  • Experience of managing competing deadlines and using own judgement to prioritise workload to meet them.
  • Ability to work effectively within a busy team of which some members are based overseas.
  • Ability and willingness to positively and proactively contributing to team dynamics and to the team achieving its goals and objectives.
  • Willingness and ability to undertake travel if required
  • Willingness to undertake occasional work outside of normal working hours if needed.

Terms and conditions

Salary: Under review
Hours: 35 hours per week
Location: Clerkenwell, central London
Contract duration: Up to 12 months contract
Holidays: Full time staff receive 27 days per annum plus one Amnesty International grace day and statutory and national public holidays .
Office hours: 09.30 - 17.30 or 10.00 - 18.00 by arrangement.
Relocation: Relocation assistance will be available for staff members (and their dependents) recruited from over 80 km/50 miles from the International Secretariat office in which the post is based.
Life insurance: 4 x gross salary.
Travel loan: Interest free travel loan for bus, underground, or rail travel to work (no qualifying period).
