Antonio Vargas and Luis Villacís Maldonado were released on 1 February after their lawyers filed a habeas corpus petition.

The judge in charge of the case ordered their release on the grounds that they had been arrested without a warrant, and not told why they had been detained.

No further action is required by the Urgent Action network. Many thanks to all those who sent appeals.
