ADPAN email no: 82 - E-news for ADPAN members

Dear ADPAN members

FIRST ISSUE OF E-NEWS for the ASIA PACIFIC REGION, ASA 01/006/2007

At Amnesty we get a lot of information on the death penalty from a variety of sources covering all countries in the Asia Pacific. Some of these are press reports we want to share with you for your work against the death penalty regionally. We hope that this e-news is one means of sending you important news stories which reflect the debate and discussions going on in individual countries as well as regionally and globally which you can use when relevant.

The e-news does not attempt to cover all press reports on the death penalty but rather is a selection of stories we consider the most relevant. Some of our information comes from ADPAN members - so please pass along any stories and we will consider including these whenever we can. I don't intend to make this e-news a lengthy document because I know from experience people don't have time to read long documents. But please give us your feedback on whether you think this is useful.

The e-news will be numbered and hopefully sent to you every three months. Each issue will be broken down by:

country

regional issues

worldwide and

general arguments against the death penalty.

This first issue covers 11 countries: China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Maldives, Pakistan, South Korea, Sir Lanka, Taiwan and Vietnam.

Best wishes

Louise, Chiara and Luana
