INDONESIA Achmad Suradji (m), aged 57

Achmad Suradji was executed by a Brimob firing squad on 10 July at 9:58 pm, at a plantation in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra. His was granted his last request to see his wife Tumini, also on death row convicted of the same offence.

Achmad Suradju was sentenced to death in 1998 after police found the bodies of 42 women and girls buried in a field behind his house. They had visited Suradji to seek his assistance, in his capacity as local witch doctor.

At least 108 people are under sentence of death in Indonesia. Achmad Suradji’s execution is the third since 26 June. The authorities appear to be preparing to execute a large number of prisoners.

No further action is requested from the UA network. Many thanks to all who sent appeals.
