Amnesty International has learned with deep regret that Asogan Ramesh and Selva Kumar were hanged at dawn on 29 May 1998. One other man convicted of drug-trafficking, whose name is not known, is also reported to have been executed at the same time.


The lawyer of the two men has expressed his thanks to all those who sent appeals which were delivered by him to the President’s office during the night. He has also passed copies to the families of the two young men.


According to a Reuters report, eight people have been executed in Singapore since the beginning of 1998.
