Amnesty International's Secretary General to launch global death penalty statistics during visit to Italy

Irene Khan, Secretary General of Amnesty International, will visit Italy from 26 to 29 April 2007 to meet with government officials. During her visit she will launch Amnesty International's annual global death penalty statistics covering the period from January to December 2006 at a press conference in Rome.

During her visit to the Italian capital, Irene Khan will meet with government and civil society representatives. In meetings with the Prime Minister, Romano Prodi, the Minister of the Interior Giuliano Amato and other officials, Irene Khan will urge the Italian authorities to show a clear commitment to human rights -- both in domestic and in international policy and practices.
