When he came to power in 1984, President Lansana Conte, promised to promote human rights. AI has found that human rights violations are continuing despite the fact that the 1990 Constitution prohibits torture. Arbitrary arrests, torture, deaths in detention, extrajudicial executions and death sentences are documented in this report which urges the Guinean authorities to take decisive measures to safeguard human rights in accordance with international standards.
