This letter has been sent to General Robert Gueï, the Head of the Comité National de Salut Public (CNSP), National Committee of Public Salvation, on 21 January 2000 to raise Amnesty International’s concerns in relation to the wave of arrests that has followed the events of 24 December 1999 when the former President Bédié’s government was overthrown by elements of the national army.
