Kenya: medical concern: Koigi wa Wamwere, Charles Kuria Wamwere, James Maigwa, Geoffrey Ngengi Njuguna

There is concern for the four opposition activists named above, who are held in Nakuru Prison in very poor conditions and have been denied access to proper medical attention. Geoffrey Ngengi Njuguna is hypertensive and diabetic, and is reported to have developed kidney problems. Charles Kuria Wamwere is reported to have typhoid. A court has ordered that both men be admitted to hospital for treatment, but in the past, the police have refused to comply with such orders. All four men face charges which carry the death penalty, and which AI believes may have been fabricated.
