Liberia : Recommendations to the Security Council and Special Representative of the Secretary-General

In the coming weeks, the United Nations (UN) Security Council will decide the mandate and composition of a UN stabilization force in Liberia, where almost 14 years of continuous conflict have been characterized by war crimes, crimes against humanity and other human rights abuses. Amnesty International has written to the Security Council and to the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Liberia making a number of recommendations to help ensure that the UN force not only plays a major role in the protection of civilians still at risk from these crimes, but also contributes to the long-term promotion and respect of human rights in Liberia.
