Nigeria: Priorities for improving the human rights situation: Amnesty International’s oral statement to the 25th session of the UN Human Rights Council (20 March 2014)

On 20 March 2014, the Human Rights Council adopted the Universal Periodic Review outcome on Nigeria. Amnesty International delivered this statement at the Council, calling on Nigeria to investigate deaths in custody in north-eastern Nigeria, put in place legal safeguards to prevent forced evictions, repeal the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, and establish a moratorium on executions, with a view to abolishing the death penalty.
