Eighteen prisoners convicted of armed robbery offences were executed by firing squad on or around 8 September 1995. The executions took place in a sports stadium in Warri, Delta State, southern Nigeria. They are reported to have been carried out as part of a crackdown on crime in the region. AI fears that more executions may be carried out in the near future.
