It appears that torture is still widespread in Senegal and is, at certain levels within the hierarchy, officially tolerated. In Casamance where Senegalese security forces are fighting armed separatists, AI has received information concerning cases of human rights violations against those suspected of supporting the Movement of Casamance's Democratic Forces (MFDC).
