Somalia: Hard news: Journalists’ lives in danger in Somalia

Since February 2007, at least 20 journalists have been killed in Somalia. Faced with the threat of human rights abuses including violations of their rights to life, security of person and freedom from arbitrary detention, many have been forced into exile. Journalists have been systematically prevented from carrying out their work and providing information to the public by parties to the conflict. Attacks on journalists and media outlets violate the right of all Somalis to seek, receive and impart information. This document outlines the attacks and threats that journalists in Somalia have faced.
