Thousands of people are being forcibly evicted from camps for internally displaced people (IDPs) in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu. An estimated 369,000 IDPs live in Mogadishu and there are over one million IDPs in Somalia today. For decades, IDPs in Somalia have been pushed from place to place by conflict and periodic famine. The government has an obligation to ensure the protection and respect of the rights of all communities, especially the more vulnerable sectors of society, such as IDPs.
