In May 2008 a wave of violent attacks against individuals, identified on the basis of their perceived nationality, ethnicity or migrant status, led to the displacement of tens of thousands of people from their homes and communities. Over 60 were killed and more than 600 others were injured. Amnesty International is concerned that since July certain trends have begun to emerge in the government’s response to this crisis which are threatening to or have violated the rights of affected individuals, including refugees and others in need of international protection.
