Amnesty International and the Human Rights Institute of the International Bar Association are gravely concerned that certain provisions in the Suppression of Terrorism Act No.3 of 2008 (the STA) threaten human rights, are inherently repressive, breach Swaziland’s obligations under international and regional human rights law and the Swaziland Constitution, and are already leading to violations of the rights of freedom of expression, association and assembly. This report analyses certain provisions of the STA in the context of Swaziland’s international and regional human rights obligations.
