Human rights defenders in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) play a crucial role in a country racked by instability and conflict. They draw national and international attention to human rights abuses in the DRC and promote awareness of human rights among the Congolese population. However, instead of addressing human rights concerns, DRC officials at the national and provincial levels continue to attack the organizations that raise them. This campaign digest includes cases which illustrate the threats, assaults and arbitrary arrests suffered by human rights defenders.
