“Essential actors of our time”: Human Rights Defenders in the Americas

This report examines the persistent human rights violations against human rights defenders and outlines the international framework for the protection of human rights defenders and their work. Governments from the USA to Argentina have in the main been unwilling or unable to take the allegations of attacks and intimidation against human rights defenders seriously and deliver measures and reforms which could prevent and reverse the pattern of violations against them.
