Canada: Follow-up procedure to the forty-eighth session of the Committee against Torture

Amnesty International is deeply concerned about Canada’s lack of progress in implementing the 2012 recommendations of the Committee against Torture (the Committee). With the exception of Omar Khadr’s return from the US Naval base in Guantánamo Bay in September 2012, following the Canadian authorities’ long-delayed approval of his transfer, several of the recommendations presented in of the Committee’s Concluding Observations remain unimplemented. The organization have also commented on the recommendation with respect to ratification of the Optional Protocol to the Convention.
