Walberto Hoyos Rivas, a leader of the Afro-descendant community in the Curvaradó region of Chocó Department, has been killed, reportedly by members of the paramilitary group, the Black Eagles (Águilas Negras). Amnesty International is seriously concerned for the safety of other community members as well as members of the Inter-Church Justice and Peace Commission (Comisión Intereclesial Jusitica y Paz) and other organizations living with the community in the Curvaradó/Jiguiamandó region.
