Francisco Chaviano Gonzalez was arrested by State Security police at his home in Havana on 7 May 1994. He is currently being held incommunicado at the State Security headquarters at Villa Marista. He is the President of the unofficial National Council for Civil Rights in Cuba (CNDCC) and a prisoner of conscience. According to reports the homes of five leading CNDCC members were raided by police on 7 May. As far as is known, the other four members have not been arrested.
