Ecuador: Colombians tortured and threatened with death

Some 30 people, all except one Colombian nationals, were reportedly tortured, subjected to death threats and otherwise ill-treated following their detention by Ecuadorian security forces in late December 1993. The detentions were in connection with an ambush on an Ecuadorean combined police and military patrol by Colombian guerrillas thought to be attached to the FARC. AI is also concerned about the alleged killing by members of the FARC of an undisclosed number of Ecuadorean police and military personnel after capture.
