AI is concerned about apparent moves to reintroduce the death penalty in El Salvador. The Legislative Assembly is currently debating a motion to ratify a motion presented by the ARENA party to reintroduce the death penalty for certain crimes committed in peacetime. There may be a vote on the motion on 18 February 1993.
