Mexico: Torture unchecked: Amnesty International’s written statement to the 25th session of the UN Human Rights Council (3-28 March 2014)

In this statement, Amnesty International sets out its principal concerns in relation to torture and other ill-treatment in Mexico and includes recommendations to the Human Rights Council. Torture and other ill-treatment continue to be used routinely by a wide range of police and security forces to gather information, support charges against criminal suspects and during public order disturbances. The extensive legal and administrative measures established to prevent and punish torture are largely ineffective or not applied.
