Nicaragua: Key concerns relating to human rights promotion and protection in Nicaragua: Amnesty International submission to the UN Universal Periodic Review, April-May 2014

In this submission Amnesty International raises concerns regarding impunity for human rights violations by police officials, including rape and torture in custody. The prevalence of reports of violence, in particular sexual violence against women and girls, also continues to be a serious concern for Amnesty International, as does the government’s retrogressive stance on the legislation that criminalizes abortion even when the life or health of women and girls is at stake, or if they are survivors of rape.
