USA: Who are the Guantánamo detainees: Case Sheet No. 15: Yemeni national: Abdulsalam al-Hela

Abdulsalam al-Hela is a businessman from Sana’a, Yemen. In September 2002 he is believed to have travelled to Egypt for a meeting with Arab Contractors. He appears to have been abducted by the Egyptian authorities and handed over to US officials, becoming a victim of the US practice of rendition and secret detention. His final destination was the detention facility at Guantánamo Bay naval base in Cuba. He remains there to this day. Amongst other things, the US authorities should be called upon to halt the practice of “rendition” and to give all detainees fair trials or released.
