Assurances provided by the USA that it is committed to its legal obligations in relation to the detention, transfer, treatment and trial of individuals suspected of involvement in international terrorism must be treated with extreme caution. Unfair trials by military commission are now looming. Six detainees accused of involvement in the 9/11 are facing the possibility of execution after such trials, even as impunity is enjoyed by those who have committed crimes against them in US custody.
