USA: Statement on behalf of Amnesty International: “Drone wars: The constitutional and counterterrorism implications of targeted killing”

In this statement Amnesty International recognizes the US government’s duty to take robust action to protect the life and physical integrity of people within its jurisdiction, and to bring to justice perpetrators of crimes under international law. But in doing so, the US government must respect its obligations under international human rights law and international humanitarian law. However, current US administration policies and practices on intentional use of lethal force appear to go substantially beyond what is permitted under the rules of international law.
