In May 2000 the United Nations (UN) Committee against Torture in Geneva is due to review the Initial Report of the USA on its implementation of the UN Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (Convention against Torture). The attached document summarizes Amnesty International's concerns regarding how the USA is meeting its obligations under the Convention against Torture, and comments on some of the observations contained in the USA's Initial Report.
