Nazmul Imam wrote reports about the activities of a criminal gang and a member of parliament and also about a local gang leader alleged to have received protection money from politicians. He was attacked by several men who beat him with sticks and stabbed him repeatedly with knives. Police initially refused to file his complaint but then did open an investigation. Amnesty International recommend that the Government of Bangladesh ensure that all those found to be responsible for the attack are brought to justice promptly and tried in accordance with fair trial standards.
