Union of Myanmar (Burma): Human rights violations against Muslims in the Rakhine (Arakan) State

This report is based on over 100 interviews with Burmese Muslim refugees from the Rakhine State which AI conducted during February and March 1992. The allegations of human rights violations documented here are part of a pattern of repression by the security forces against Muslims in this area. They include: deliberate killings and ill-treatment of Muslims forced to act as porters for the security forces; torture and ill-treatment, including rape of Muslim women; deliberate killings of Muslims fleeing to Bangladesh; and the arrest and detention of Muslims for their political activities.
