Khin Maung Swe, a prominent member of the NLD and MP-elect, Saw San San Nwe, a writer and her daughter, U Sein Kla Oo, a journalist, were arrested in Yangon (Rangoon) on 4 0r 5 August 1994. There whereabouts in detention are not known. AI fears for their safety in view of reports of torture and ill-treatment of government opponents in detention.
