China: Hong Kong SAR: Submission to the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women: 59th session, 20 October – 7 November 2014

This briefing focuses on the situation of migrant domestic workers in Hong Kong. Amnesty International expresses concerns about the routine involvement of placement agencies in trafficking of migrant domestic workers and their exploitation. Employers frequently subject such workers to human rights abuses including restricting freedom of movement and inadequate remuneration. The Hong Kong government has failed to properly monitor individuals and organizations which are violating domestic legislation. In addition, the Hong Kong government has in place regulations which increase migrant domestic workers’ risk of being subjected to human rights abuses.
