Sukhdev Singh was reportedly taken into custody by police from Butala police station, Beas, on 2 January 1993. His father has made applications to the sessions judge of Amritsar and to the Governor of Punjab for the release of his son, who remains detained as of 01 March 1993. Although he has seen his son at Butala police station, Nazar Singh fears that he may be tortured or killed in detention.
