Cambodia: Accountability for gross human rights violations: Open letter to King Sihanouk and the National Assembly

In an open letter to King Sihanouk and the National Assembly of Cambodia, Amnesty International recognises and appreciates the need for national reconciliation in Cambodia. However, the organization believes that amnesties should not be acceptable, as international standards require the governmental authorities of a country where gross human rights violations have occurred to undertake proper investigations. Amnesty International asks the Cambodian authorities to ensure that impartial investigations are undertaken and to contribute to the protection of human rights in the future.
