Kingdom of Cambodia: Illegal detention of nine Thai nationals

AI is concerned about the continuing illegal detention of nine Thai nationals in T3 prison in the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh. They have been held without charge or trial since 3 July 1994. It appears that the authorities may be holding them to exert pressure on the Thai government to allow a Cambodian investigation committee access to as many as 14 Thai nationals in Thailand. The committee wishes to interview them in connection with a failed coup attempt in Phnom Penh on 2 July 1994. AI considers the detention of nine Thai nationals in Cambodia in order to further this cause to be an infringement of their human rights and calls on the government either to charge the nine with a recognizable offence under existing law or to release them.
