Macao: Human rights challenges for transition

On 20 December 1999, Macau will return to the sovereignty of the People's Republic of China (PRC) after four centuries of Portuguese rule. Many human rights related aspects of the transition process remain a matter for concern and in this document Amnesty International highlights these areas and recommends the authorities of MSAR take all necessary legislative and other measures to protect these fundamental rights.
