The Government of Nepal in 1996 passed the Torture Compensation Act (TCA), however many of the other provisions of the Convention against Torture have not been implemented. During a workshop organized in Kathmandu on 24 November 2000, a gathering of lawyers, doctors, public prosecutors and Amnesty International members recommended specific amendments to the Act as well as scores of changes to the current way in which the law is being put into practice.
