Papua New Guinea: Women Human Rights Defenders In Action

Although gender-based violence is pervasive in Papua New Guinea, many women are also active and vocal agents of change, engaged in a struggle to build safer homes and communities. Although they are grossly under-represented in national and provincial parliaments, in local government, in village courts, in the police force and judiciary, they continue to work towards the prevention of gender-based violence and effective redress for victims. This document uses illustrative examples to show the work being undertaken by some of them.
