Socialist Republic of Viet Nam: The death penalty

AI is concerned that over 100 people were apparently sentenced to death in Viet Nam in 1995 and fears that executions are carried out on a regular basis. This concern is heightened by the fact that defendants do not receive fair trials and their rights a suspects under the ICCPR are often ignored. AI calls on the government of Viet Nam to commute all exisiting death sentences and to give full consideration to abolition of the death penalty as a punishment for all offences in law.
