Cyprus: Imprisonment of conscientious objector Sophoklis Sophokleous

On 12 June 1995, Sophoklis Sophokleous was sentenced by Nicosia Military Court to one year’s imprisonment for refusing to perform military aservice. This is his second time to be imprisoned for this reason. He is one of 18 conscientious objectors currently in prison in Cyprus. As far as AI is aware, all are Jehovah’s Witnesses. AI considers them to be prisoners of conscience and calls for them to be released.
