Police ill-treatment in Denmark: a summary of Amnesty International’s concerns

This report describes recent incidences of ill-treatment by Danish police, including the indiscriminate firing into a crowd during a violent demonstration on 18-19 May 1993, and a pattern of ill-treatment during a 15-month anti-drugs operation in Christiania. The paper also highlights the frequent use of a dangerous and degrading form of restraint known as the “leg-lock”. The following individual cases of ill-treatment are given: Alexander Borgstrom, “Anders”, Bent Luchow Poulsen, Reinholdt Bjarne Johan Knudsen, Albert Hatchwell Nielsen, Mads Sjolund, Benjamin Christian Schou and “Mrs Andersen”.
